Gloucester Cathedral: Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 by Candlelight
November 22 | 4:30 pm – 6:30 pm

La Serenissima are delighted to join the Cathedral Choir of Gloucester Cathedral for a candlelit performance of Monteverdi’s Vespers of 1610 in the Nave. Conducted by Adrian Partington, Director of Music at Gloucester Cathedral, this special evening supports the Cathedral’s In Tune Music & Organ Campaign.
Expect Monteverdi’s thrilling choruses, expressive ensembles and the vivid blend of old and new that defined early Baroque Venice. La Serenissima bring period instruments, colour and clarity to this monumental score, partnering with the Cathedral Choir to illuminate its spiritual and musical drama.
Gloucester Cathedral’s music programme has flourished under Adrian Partington’s leadership, and this collaboration showcases that vitality. With choir, soloists and orchestra in full voice, Vespers becomes an immersive experience of sound and space by candlelight.
La Serenissima are two-time winners of the Gramophone Award for Baroque Instrumental and have topped the UK Specialist Classical Chart. They are proud to share the richness of early music with new audiences in partnership with Gloucester Cathedral.
Join us for an evening of sacred splendour, presented in one of England’s great cathedrals, and hear Vespers anew.
